New Enquiries (1)

Michael Patten - local artist.
Came into the shop to ask about exhibiting his artwork.

I had a look through some of his pieces on his phone but I couldn't get the full impression of his work - I suggested that he should send me some images of his work through email so I could view them properly and see which pieces were saleable and would appeal to customers.
The work I looked at seemed quite graphic-design like with bright colours and bold lines. I think most of them were pieces relating to rock stars, media and band logos. This could be interesting as it might work in a commercial sense, however it might appear same-y and not very appealing to people wanting to buy art for their homes. Although it may work for the younger audiences.

It is something I will have to consider when looking at his work - I feel that his work will come into the next exhibition rather than the upcoming one in August as I am already overloaded with artists at present.
He said that some of his work is framed which is important for display so those pieces will probably be more likely to sell than the others.

August Exhibition

Currently the artists I have to display have not confirmed or signed the contract but I have arranged meeting with some of them and I am currently in touch with them to discuss the availability of the artwork, the sizes and the arrangement.
The artists I plan to use for the August exhibition have common themes based on unique work, saleability, commercial value and vibrancy, colourful and bold pieces.

Saleability (4)

Caroline Ashwood

This artist expressed interest in being displayed in the art gallery.
Her artwork is expressive and abstract and could be displayed with colourful and bold artworks. However the work is quite large so I feel only a few of her pieces will be used.

'Spiritual Tree'

'Bright Sunflower'

'Black Dahlia'

Saleability (3)

Steven Bason-Healey - painting/mixed media

This artist has expressed interest in displaying their work - I am interested in this artist's work because of the graffiti-style, vibrant colours and abstract pieces. I feel this artist's work will work well along side Binty Bint's work, other abstract artists and illustrative pieces.

'She comes in colours'
This piece has been sold but the artist has been in touch and says he can create one similar.

'Manray'

'Pig'

'Waiting for the Sun'

'Rural Splash'

'Cross Wind'

Saleability of work (2)

Paul Richards - photography (https://www.facebook.com/ElevatePhoto?fref=ts)

I have looked through the work by this artist and decided that we need a varied collection - tourist-y photographs, landscape and industrial images.
I am thinking of creating a display showing work by this artist in a range of sizes - from large canvas prints to postcard sized pieces. This will create a varied price range for different customers.

Saleability of artwork

Looking at:
Work with commercial value and that will appeal to customers and local people.
For this artist's work I think the strong pieces are the most graphic designed pieces - the thick lines and bright colours are both eye-catching and bold.
These pieces could be either framed or printed onto postcard sized card.
Selling between £5 - £25

Chloe Boland's work (local artist):
